09/17/2007 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Appalachian State took advantage of its 34-21 victory over Northern Arizona on Saturday to remain the unanimous No. 1 team in The Sportsbook Betting Lines FCS Top-25 poll, which was released on Monday.
The Mountaineers (3-0) received all 90 first-place votes to stay comfortably ahead of second-place Montana. Montana (2-0) was off on Saturday.
Massachusetts (3-0) stayed in third place, 75 points behind Montana, after a key 36-13 win over Towson in the Minutemen's first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season.
Northern Iowa (3-0) had a solid 31-17 victory at South Dakota State to stay at No. 4 and to close within 42 points of UMass.
North Dakota State's 41-38 victory in the final seconds at home against Sam Houston State allowed the Bison to remain fifth. The loss for Sam Houston State forced the Bearkats down one spot to No. 17.
McNeese State (2-0) used a 38-17 victory over an FBS opponent and old rival, Louisiana-Lafayette, to vault up two places in the poll to sixth place. The Cowboys traded places with Youngstown State, which fell two spots to No. 8, despite a 42-6 pounding of Stony Brook.
Southern Illinois (3-0) stayed at No. 7 with its 44-10 hammering of Southern Utah and James Madison used a 45-17 rout of VMI to retain its No. 9 slot.
New Hampshire jumped two spots from 12th to 10th by beating former FCS powerhouse Marshall 48-35 on the road on Saturday. It was the sixth win of the season by an FCS school over an FBS opponent and the third straight week that FCS schools have won two games against the FBS.
Delaware lost one spot to 11th, even with a convincing 38-9 victory over CAA foe Rhode Island Saturday at home. Hampton's 59-14 thrashing of North Carolina A&T helped the Pirates go up by one position to No. 12.
Wofford's 38-17 loss at North Carolina State cost the Terriers two spots in the poll to 13th.
Illinois State's 24-21 victory at then-No. 14 Eastern Illinois caught the voters' attention as the Redbirds flew up three places to No. 14, while Hofstra continued its rise from 19th to 15th with a 28-13 decision at Albany.
Furman's second straight loss, 38-10 at Clemson, caused the Paladins to fall one position to No. 16.
Montana State's 61-7 victory over Division II Dixie State gave the Bobcats the momentum to climb from 20th to 18th, while Western Illinois captured a 69-0 decision over NAIA opponent St. Francis, IL. to rush from No. 22 to No. 19.
Eastern Illinois close loss to Illinois State cost it six places in the Top-25 as the Panthers fell to No. 20.
Completing the Top-25 were Yale, Lafayette, Alabama A&M, Cal Poly and Eastern Washington.
Yale retained the No. 21 spot by belting Georgetown 28-14 and Lafayette advanced three places to No. 22 with its 8-7 victory over Penn in the final seconds on the road.
Alabama A&M crushed Mississippi Valley State 45-14 to improve to 3-0 and move into the poll for the first time this season at No. 23.
After one week out of the poll, Cal Poly slipped back in at 24th with a 47-19 trouncing of Weber State.
Eastern Washington got past UC Davis 41-31 and moved into the national rankings for the first time this season at No. 25. The Eagles finished with one more point than Delaware State, which was ranked No. 24 before dropping a 38-7 decision at Kent State.

In what should be an outstanding Saturday of March Madness betting action, the top four teams in the South and West Regions square off in what should be extremely close match-ups. Three of the four teams are coming off extremely close games on Thursday evening, only UCLA won semi comfortably over Pitt 64-55.
Ohio State is coming off their second game in a row where in all reality they should have lost. Of course that doesn’t matter now since the name of the game is “survive and advance” but as the tournament continues, they can’t afford to keep getting down to their opponents early. Kansas also avoided a scare by holding off a scrappy Southern Illinois squad. In the third thrilling game of the evening Memphis pulled off the minor upset (+3.5) despite being the higher seed to Texas A&M.
Although the spreads are fairly small for Saturday’s games, MySportsbook.com continue to bet against the underdogs. Despite OSU’s two scares, 86% of the “betting public” feels the Buckeyes (-1.5) have what it takes to make the Final Four. In fact, so much of the early money is on OSU that the line has already moved from -1 to -1.5. In the second game of the doubleheader, Kansas and their high-powered offense are 2 point favorites as they take on UCLA and their effective defense. About 63% of the early money thus far is once again backing the favorites. If those percentages stay that high, don’t be surprised if this line moves as well. If you like Kansas (-2) you might want to jump on it early.
Memphis vs. Ohio State
Both squads were involved in thrillers on Thursday evening and should come out fired up. OSU can ill afford to get behind early like they did versus their previous two opponents (Xavier, Tennessee). Greg Oden needs to stay out of foul trouble; the Buckeyes are a completely different team when he is on the court. Memphis definitely has the athleticism and length to match-up with OSU. Of Memphis’ five leading minute earners, the shortest of the bunch is 6’5”. Each team has a very effective defense; Memphis surrenders 62.3 PPG whereas the Buckeyes give up only 61 PPG. With those type of numbers, it isn’t surprising that Memphis covered the UNDER almost 69% of the time this season. As a favorite, OSU has covered the UNDER almost 66% of the time over the last three seasons. The major concern for Memphis which is magnifies this time of the year is their brutal foul shooting (62%). This season, OSU is 17-11 ATS versus teams with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in all tournament games. Memphis has been an extremely reliable cover in tournament play in recent years with a 23-8 ATS record over the last three seasons.
UCLA vs. Kansas
In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, UCLA will play in a role which they are very unfamiliar with that of the underdog. Only twice this season have they been getting points from the handicappers and both times they covered. Over the last three seasons UCLA is a reliable 23-7 ATS in this unfamiliar role. UCLA has not fared well against Big 12 opponents recently going 1-7 ATS since 1997. Giving up only 59.6 PPG, UCLA will definitely look to do what they do best: keep this game as low scoring as possible. Their defense has been especially tough during the tournament. UCLA opponents have been able to muster up only 48.7 PPG while shooting a combined 34.5% from the field. UCLA definitely has a challenge at hand with a Kansas team that is capable of putting points on the board in bunches. As a team, they average 79 PPG and shoot an impressive 49.6% from the field and 39.4% from beyond the arc. During the tournament Kansas has been “lights out” from the field having shot 56.2%.

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
